The Village of Bellville Cemetery Trustees and Utility Department  have developed the following regulations and information. Please help us maintain the cemetery as a beautiful place of rest for our loved ones and a quiet sanctuary to remember our personal and community history.

Regulations

Donations may be made toward tree planting and/or cemetery beautification at the Cemetery Board and Utility Dept's discretion.

Planting of trees, shrubs, or bushes, including roses, is prohibited. This includes perennials that grow too large and spread. Examples of prohibited perennials, but not limited to: ground cover, daylilies, grasses and clematis or other vines.

No trees are to be removed except by the Utility Dept or persons appointed by the Trustees.

Storm-damaged or diseased trees will be trimmed or disposed of.

Any planting, in violation of the above rules, will be removed without notice.

Monuments are to be set following the regulations as established by the Cemetery Trustees. In accordance with the August 11, 2003 regulations of the Board of Trustees, the following specifications will be in effect:

MAXIMUM HEIGHT of monument will not exceed 43.5″ from the top of the foundation to the top of the monument.

MAXIMUM SIZE of gravestones in the 1979, 2013 AND 2020 additions: (Four-inch extensions on each side are required.)

Single Grave:   monument base 36″ x 14″, foundation 44″ x 22″

Double Grave: monument base 72″ x 14″, foundation 80″ x 22″

Maximum size of stones in older additions: (No extension required but recommended to prevent headstone from tilting.)

Single Grave:   monument 44″ x 22″

Double Grave: monument 80″ x 22″

foundation 80" x 22"

Baby sections in 1955 and 2020 additions: 10″ x 20″ or 12" x 24"

Lot must be paid in full before monuments can be placed.

All monuments are to be placed at head of graves. No exceptions.

Foundations are to be installed only by a contractor who is approved by the Bellville Cemetery Sexton.

Foundations are only poured twice a year in the Spring and Fall. No exceptions.

To be eligible for monument placement, foundation orders MUST be received from the Monument Company by the following dates:

April 1st for Spring pouring

September 1st for Fall pouring

All wanted decorations and containers MUST be removed for:

Spring Cleanup March 15th-April 15th

Fall Cleanup  Oct 15th-Nov 15th

Decorations deemed inappropriate or in violation will be removed without notice.

Artificial flowers are only permitted in saddles and permanently attached vases. NO artificial flowers in the ground.

All decorations must be placed at head of grave, no more than 16″ from the head of monument, and maintained by the lot owner, or they will be removed without notice. Nothing allowed on the sides or back of the headstone. Do not remove sod from the sides or back of headstones.

No glass of any kind, including containers, decorations, trinkets, figurines, candles or vigil lights.

No plastic solar lights: solar lights in concrete, stone or metal allowed attached to headstone or base or in decorating area.

No decorating area fillers including: bricks, cinders, tile, stone, marble, terra cotta, concrete, gravel, ceramics or wood. ONLY fine mulch is allowed. NO wires or trellis.

No rigid permanent borders allowed. This includes: concrete, bricks, plastic, wood or any type of fencing.

NO signs, flags or messages that are political, profane, offensive or controversial permitted. No advertising or soliciting. Only 2 small flags allowed per grave, one of which must be an American flag. All flags need removed for cleanup.

No weapons, explosives or ammunition, excluding honor guard.

No food or beverages to be left on the graves.

Only 5 decorating items allowed per grave. This is for ALL decorations including: flags, shepherd hooks, trinkets, etc.

Only 1 shepherd hook per grave for hanging basket or chimes. Shepherd hook must be in line with the monument or in decorating area.

No decorations sitting in the grass. Decorations, flags and shepherd hooks MUST be in the 16" decorating area in front of the headstone or secured on the footer or headstone.

All transfers of gravesites must go through the clerk of the cemetery to be valid.

FULL BURIAL/FULL GRAVE:

One full burial or a maximum of three cremations allowed in a full grave.

Embalming or specific kind of casket not required. But a vault is required for full burial.

CREMATION/CREMATION GRAVE:

Two cremations allowed in a cremation grave

Urns MUST be non-biodegradable. If ashes are in a plastic bag, wood box or temporary plastic box then an urn vault is required. No urn vault is required with stone/marble/metal/polypropolene urns.

The sprinkling of ashes over cemetery property is prohibited. Any sprinkled ashes found on cemetery property will be removed and discarded.

No burials of baby at foot of graves in 1979, 2013 and 2020 additions.

Cemetery MUST receive burial information by Friday at 12p to have a burial on Monday before 12p.

Funeral Home MUST contact cemetery to schedule a date/time prior to releasing the obituary.

Cemetery reserves the right to deny a burial date/time due to burial conflicts or maintenance issues.

 

All pets MUST be on a leash and pet owners MUST clean up after their pets.

The cemetery will not be liable for any loss, damages or delay due to causes beyond its control, including: acts of God, trees, natural causes, weather, vandalism and theft. This includes any damage to headstones, monuments, vaults, foundations and decorations due to ordinary cemetery work, including the use of mowers, tractors, weedeaters and/or other equipment.

These regulations may be revised without notice.
